Traditional hand tools “Made in Germany”

Even today the classical woodworking hand tools for craftsmen and in the hobby area are still in demand. The difference to a universal tool is that a hand tool is held by hand and run by muscle force only. The classical hand tools for carpenters are hand counter sinks and a variety of “piercing-tools”. This includes piercer with continuous or round blade and piercing drills with wooden handles.

FAMAG has a clear vision on how a classical piercer is manufactured: It has a finished wooden handle which is made of finest hard wood. A continuous blade goes all the way through its core and is sharpened at the other end. With the help of the continuous blade you can, in tough cases, even hit with a hammer on the plate end and the picker won’t break. The pickers with continuous blade are made with a round blade and the chamfers are manufactured with a 6mm thick, edgy blade. If you prefer an even easier piercing try our piercing drill line 2006 with a sharpened chamfer. This works great in hard woods and other hard materials.

We are still asked frequently about the classical hand countersinks. These are still being produced today with a beech wood grip. If you prefer a plastic grip you can order these, too. Hand counter sinks are often used to break the first sharp edge of a wood or plastic boring.  And it’s faster than with a machine most of the times.

Here and there wood thread cutting tools are still used. With these –we have to admit- not super cheap tools you are able to produce a wood thread. We know these wood threads from Grandma’s nut cracker or wooden chairs where the chair legs are screwed in the seat. With the FAMAG sets you can manufacture the inner as well as the outer threads.

Of course we offer the classical gimlet besides all these traditional hand tools. FAMAG gimlets consist of a steel wire, helically formed on one end and on the top the wire is formed like a loop as a handle. It was used in former times in woodworking especially for predrilling holes for nails in wood. Today we use cordless screwdrivers and screw connections for most of these

purposes and only small diameters up to 6mm are in demand. The surface of the gimlet boring is rough, because the boring edges tear out. This spot is hidden by the nail head. On the other side this rough boring helps to grip and hold the nail.

Thanks to its cheap costs it’s used by craftsmen who don’t own a drilling machine.

To sum it up this is past because almost everybody owns a cordless screwdriver or drilling machine.

Nevertheless we still sell those tools a lot.
